The starting point of China’s automobile dream: the hard work of the first automobile manufacturer

1. Preparation and foundation
In 1950, China and the Soviet Union agreed that the Soviet Union would help China build an automobile manufacturing plant, and the project was subsequently included in my country's first five-year plan.

2. Construction and production
On July 13, 1956, the first domestic Jiefang brand car rolled off the assembly line, and on October 15, the factory held a groundbreaking ceremony.

3. Innovation and breakthrough
On May 12, 1958, the first Dongfeng brand car was successfully trial-produced, and on August 1, the first Hongqi brand luxury car was successfully trial-produced. On March 15, 1963, the first batch of 500 boron steel Jiefang brand cars rolled off the assembly line. In 1974, CNC machining centers were introduced.

4. Joint ventures and opening up
On May 17, 1988, FAW and Volkswagen of Germany reached a technical agreement to introduce 30,000 cars. On February 8, 1991, FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. was established. On February 22, 1992, FAW and Tanzania jointly established the CA141 assembly plant.

5.Glory and Future
In recent years, FAW has continuously launched new models, such as the mass production and listing of the Pentium sedan on August 18, 2006, the 6 millionth truck of FAW Jiefang rolled off the assembly line on July 15, 2014, and the first successful public demonstration of FAW Jiefang's unmanned intelligent truck on April 13, 2017. In the future, FAW will continue to promote technological innovation and industrial upgrading, and make greater contributions to the development of China's automobile industry.
